Programs
The Cross County
Arts Council’s goal is to provide at least one artist/musician/theatrical group
each year for every grade at every school in the county. These programs expose
students to the arts and a non-traditional form of learning.
Past performers have included slam poet Clayton Scott who most recently
conducted a one-week poetry residency at Wynne Junior High School, dancers with
Ballet Memphis who performed “Giraffes Can’t Dance” for Wynne Primary students
and children’s singer/songwriter Brian Kinder who performed at Vanndale and
Cherry Valley Elementary Schools.
Other recent performers in the schools include internationally known storyteller
Donald Davis who performed at Wynne Junior High School and Wynne High School and
actors with the Arkansas Tell-A-Tale Troupe who performed King Arthur and His
Magic Sword for Cross County elementary schools.
The schools have
also welcomed the Arkansas Repertory Theater for a performance of “The
Frankenstein Experiment” and Lela Bloom who performed her “Music and Books”
program.
Beginning in Spring 2006, the arts council’s executive director will meet with a
committee of teachers from each school who will select school programs based on
their curriculum needs. The arts council wants to work closely with teachers and
provide them with programming that assists in their teaching goals.
